Coke vs. Pepsi

What does this say to you?

Pepsi vs. Coke

To me it says, when you find a successful formula don’t mess with it.

H/T: Consumerist

This is a very interesting comparison. It might also be a comment on the power of being first to market and then holding that position. The imitator dropped the "cola" part of their logo in 1962, maybe trying to make it less obvious that they were emulating Coke's logo as well as their product. They also are repeatedly changing their logo reputedly to appeal to "new" generations of consumers. Interestingly, Coke changed their product unsuccessfully a couple of decades ago and had to change it back when consumers complained.
In conclusion, it is difficult to say just from the comparison of logos over time whether the Pepsi and Coke history is reflective of successful marketing or of just a different strategy.

    Anyway, great post!
